
This is a mixed medium paper-cut Notan based on the movie Metropolis. I used elements from the following stills, in addition to other scenes from the movie. No paper is waisted, all of the parts are reused or relocated to somewhere else in the piece.

From here I zoomed in on different elements of the piece, and then tiled them to create a pattern.

Here are two of the patterns created-


I further developed the second pattern, adding tonal variation within the forms. The end result is reminiscent of a wrought iron fence.

Finally I applied this pattern to multiple places in an architectural photo from crockettarchitects.
