These are three posters demonstrating a larger poster series of three different plays put on at the 2025 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
LOGO PROCESS –
I wanted to creates something clean and simple for the logo- Philadelphia Fringe Festival 2025. I went with a shape that indicated a banner, as I wanted it to work well both flat and at 90*. While this was not a necessary part of the project, I couldn’t help but consider lamp post banners and clear signage for physical applications, as Philly Fringe 2025 included physical events as well as virtual.

THE USE OF TEXTURE –
I used an image trace that I later modified of the following images – some were not used in the end result, but they were very useful in discovering the kinds of textures that worked well.
I went with water textures for The Forever Wave, metal armor textures (both plate and chain) for Myths, Legends, and Fantasy, and with a wooden board texture meant to look like a board walk for Humetheus and the Quest for the Bronze Cloak.

EARLY POSTER PROCESS –

In my earliest concepts, I played with just the scale of the title text. I ended up going with something that appeared like justified text, although it was manually arranged in the end. This ended up being the final layout.

I then arranged my body copy, and worked more on how I wanted the texture to integrate into the text. I originally used a transparent layer to create a boundary between the dark and light. Then I tried manually separating out elements of the backing texture. I was ultimately unsatisfied with both concepts.

I finally settled on a peekaboo style following shapes I defined based on the physicality of the texture, and the meaning behind the play. I cut out blocking directly behind the body copy so that the textures and text never touched, but still interacted.

I am quite happy with the results, and look forward to using similar techniques in the future.
